Camp Counselor
 
The Borough of Garwood is now hiring for summer camp counselors!
This position requires experience working with children.
 
Rate of Pay and Hours: $13.73/hour, up to 15 hours per week
 
Dates:
  • Summer Camp Staff Meeting and Training: June (Date and Time TBA)
  • Summer Camp Dates: Mondays through Fridays, June 24, 2024 – August 9, 2024 (no camp July 3rd – 5th)
Job Description:
Do you have a big heart and a passion for children? Do you have experience working with youth? Garwood Recreation has the coolest summer camp around and we are seeking qualified individuals to supervise children in the camp, lead activities, and provide support during the camp, under direct supervision.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides various high-quality opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
  • Provides, leads, and implements camp activities for campers.
  • Takes daily attendance and keeps the attending campers with their designated age group.
  • Dismisses campers according to the preference of the parent/guardian which is stated on the camper registration form.
  • Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
  • Designs and facilitates daily activities.
  • Organizes and leads various small and large group activities, monitors campers.
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Mediates any campers’ disputes and
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines and regulations associated with the camp program.
  • Maintains constant surveillance.
  • Enforces code of conduct and notifies supervisor of the campers who do not comply with the code of conduct.
  • Communicates with supervisor

  • Ability to monitor, instruct, and manage a group of children in assigned care
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, and safety precautions related to camp

Experience:
  • At least 1 year experience monitoring activities and programs for children.
  • Experience in summer camp, after school, youth services, physical education, or childcare preferred.
